The Hunter is the leading regional economy in Australia, with thriving communities and a biodiversity-rich natural environment. The Hunter is home to more than 860,000 people and is still growing due to its reputation as one of the great places to live, work and play.
The Hunter Regional Plan sets a 20-year strategic planning blueprint for the future of the region to address needs for housing, jobs, infrastructure, a healthy environment, connected communities and open, green spaces.
A draft Hunter Expressway Strategy has been developed to help deliver the vision in the Hunter Regional Plan 2036 and the Greater Newcastle Metropolitan Plan 2036, for the Hunter to be the leading regional economy in Australia with a vibrant metropolitan city at its heart.
